I love the game Mancala as one of those rare examples of something so old that dozens of cultures across the world have their own versions. Variations date back at least three-thousand years, and they’re played to this day throughout Africa, Eurasia, and the Americas.
I designed this series of boards for the American version of Mancala, known as Kalah. This series is an excellent example of my iterative approach to design; I designed each, made it, and determined further revisions for the next after handling and playing it, then repeat.
I plan to eventually make boards for the popular mancala variations Oware, Omweso, and Bao.
